Mohawk-McMaster Institute for Applied Health Sciences, 54 weeks
Start date: September
  • Develop theoretical and clinical competency in the field of cardiac sonography
  • Gain extensive laboratory and clinical practice experience
  • Utilize state-of-the-art equipment
  • Participate in two semesters (12 weeks each term) of clinical training with affiliated clinical agencies
  • Eligible graduates take the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) examinations in Cardiovascular Principles and Instrumentation, Physics, and Adult Echocardiography
  • Mohawk College has registered for the Canadian Medical Association accreditation of the Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography Program. The program assessment is tentatively scheduled for June 2010

Admission Requirements

  • Applicants must possess one of the following qualifications:
    • A Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer
    • A graduate of a single two-year allied health diploma program with a full year course in Human Anatomy and Physiology, or equivalent. Such health occupations include but are not limited to Radiologic Technologist, Respiratory Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Registered Nurse, Registered Massage Therapist,  Cardiovascular Technologist and Physical Therapist
    • A graduate of a Bachelor's degree in a health-related discipline with a full year course in Human Anatomy and Physiology, or equivalent. Such degrees include but are not limited to BSc Kinesiology, BA Kinesiology, Bachelor of Health Sciences and Bachelor of Applied Health Sciences

Submission Requirements

All applicants must submit the following information:

  • A current resumé with a cover letter
  • Two professional confidential assessment forms (sent by mail, available from the Admission Office, Mohawk College once application received through OCAS)
  • Proof of registration, if applicable (a copy of current registration or license in your profession)
  • A transcript of all postsecondary education
  • Proof of current Canadian certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation - BCLS Level C

Applicants for Whom English is a Second Language:

  • TOEFL iBT score (minimum score of 98 overall, with a minimum score of 24 in reading, listening and writing, and a minimum score of 26 in speaking.

Degrees from Countries other than Canada and the US:

  • Foreign Transcript Evaluation for Canadian Equivalency through ICAS (www.icascanada.ca)
