What is an apprenticeship?

  • It's an agreement between a person who wants to learn a skilled trade, an employer who needs a skilled worker, and the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU)
  • An apprenticeship usually lasts three to five years

What is involved?

  • To become a certified journeyperson, one requires a combination of on-the-job experience and in-school training by an approved trainer
  • After completing their in-school training, the apprentice receives a Certificate of Apprenticeship from Mohawk College
  • When the apprentice passes the MTCU Certificate of Qualification exam, they receive their C of Q
