Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) is an approach to service delivery that supports the recovery of people with prolonged mental illness. The program attracts people with experience in the field either as a person working towards their own recovery and/or as a provider of mental health services. Learners develop an understanding of the foundations of PSR, as well as the knowledge and skills related to integrating the approach within practice and programs. Successful completion of the program prepares the student for the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner.
Related experience in the field of mental heath either as a person working towards their own recovery and/or a family member and/or a volunteer or mental health worker. Note that an Approval Process has been established. Please contact Christine Gayler, Program Manager to discuss your interest and entry into the program.
If you are interested in enrolling in the PSR Certificate program, but do not have related knowledge and experience, successful completion of the Introduction to Mental Health (HLTH10016) course will grant you entry into the PSR Certificate program.
To obtain the Certificate, you must successfully complete the following six modules starting with HSCIPSR01.
|
HSCIPSR01 |
Psychosocial Rehabilitation Foundations |
|
HSCIPSR02 |
Mental Health Services, Programs and Organizations |
|
HSCI10092 |

|
HSCIPSR03 |
Psychiatric Rehabilitation Process |
|
HSCIPSR05 |
Current Trends in Mental Health |
|
HSCIPSR06 |
Independent Study in Psychosocial Rehabilitation |
Revisions to the Program as of September 2007. HSCI10092 Mental Health Practitioner Roles and Competencies replaces PSR04 Case Management. Students who have successfully completed the Case Management course are assured that their credit will be honoured and that they are not expected to take HSCI10092. To discuss further, contact the Program Manager.
Note: The Psychosocial Rehabilitation Foundations course is the prerequisite course to all others in the PSR Program and is ideally followed by the second course: Mental Health Services, Programs and Organizations. Mental Health Practitioner Roles and Competencies and the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Process come next. To gain the greatest benefit from the Current Trends in Mental Health course, we strongly recommend that it be the fifth course that you take. The final course is Independent Study in Psychosocial Rehabilitation and all previous five courses must be successfully completed prior to registering in this course.
