The number of patients requiring care for renal disease has doubled in recent years. This trend is expected to continue as the population ages. These patients and their families need Registered Nurses who possess in-depth knowledge and are skilled in the physical and psychological aspects of nephrology care.
This Certificate program provides Registered Nurses with research/evidence-based knowledge through its theory courses and an opportunity to integrate this knowledge into practice through a preceptored clinical experience in a nephrology care setting. The program utilizes the Standards for Nephrology Nursing Practice and Standards for Nephrology Technical Practice published by Canadian Association of Nephrology Nurses and Technology.
Students must possess a current certificate of competence as a Registered Nurse from the College of Nurses of Ontario or evidence of eligibility to write the registration examination.
Medical clearance is required prior to beginning the clinical experience course. The clinical experience is to be arranged with the program manager.
