The RPN Maternal Newborn Nursing Certificate has undergone revisions which are effective September 2007. For those students who are in progress, please note that clinical experience courses are now required in addition to the theory courses for Maternal Newborn Nursing. Students who have taken Perinatal Education 1 and 2 courses prior to Fall 2007 will be assessed on an individual basis related to the change in clinical hours.
Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse.

Clinical experiences will take place between April and August of each year to ensure optimal learning and availability of clinical settings.
Prior to the first clinical experience, medical clearance is required and all students are required to take Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) or apply for exemption for NRP.
A challenge exam is available for Registered Practical Nurses who meet the clinical prerequisites and who feel they have sufficient knowledge and expertise to bypass Perinatal Education 1 and/or Perinatal Education 2. All prerequisite clinical experience must be current and as a Registered Practical Nurse.
