Highlights
- Prepares students to build careers in the lucrative financial services sector, banking and insurance fields
- The Certified Financial Planner (CFP) is an industry-recognized professional designation that is administered by The Financial Planners Standards Council of Canada (FPSCC). Upon successful completion of the program students qualify to write the CFP Accreditation exams which are scheduled in June and November each year. See below for more details.
- Graduates will also fulfill the coursework to hold the M Mutual Funds License, and be qualified to challenge the Life License Qualification Program (LLQP) course examination to be licensed as life agents. Also receive credit points toward the Certified Professional Salesperson (CPSP) qualification
- Registered students who have been convicted of an offence under the criminal code for which they have not been pardoned may be denied the opportunity to be placed with an employer for the required work term. A certificate of "Police Clearance" and/or "Consent to Disclosure" may be requested by the employer.

Admission Requirements
- OSSD or equivalent (GED, College and Career Preparation) including:
- Grade 12 English, general, advanced, C or U or equivalent
- Grade 12 Mathematics, general, advanced or C, or grade 11 M or U, or Mohawk College Prep Math for Business or equivalent
- Mature applicants are considered individually
- Students successfully completing this FPSC Accredited Education program and CFP Examination must also meet two year work experience requirements to be eligible for CFP licensing. Qualifying work experience can be earned prior to, concurrent with, or subsequent to education and examination requirements. Experience earned more than five years prior to or five years subsequent to writing the CFP Examination is generally not acceptable.
Certified Financial Planning (CFP) Designation Information
- Students successfully completing this Financial Planning Standards Council (FPSC) Accredited Education Program and who wish to receive the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation must pass the CFP Accreditation exam which is scheduled in June and November of each year. In addtion students must also meet the two year work experience requirement to be eligible for CFP licensing.
- Students entering the Financial Services Program with full time status by September 2008 will be eligible to write a single CFP Accreditation exam if they apply by January 2009.
- Students entering the Financial Services Program after September 2008 will be under the new CFP Accreditation rules as established by the FPSC.
- Those students who wish to receive their CFP designation will be required to write 2 Professional Competency Exams (PCE). Students must, within 4 years of their education, write and pass Professional Competency Exam 1 (PCE1). Upon successful completion of PCE1 students will be considered a CFP candidate and will be eligible to write PCE2 upon completion of at least one year of suitable work experience and successful completion of the CFP capstone course. In addition CFP candidates who have passed PCE1 and PCE2 will be required to have three years of full-time suitable work experience before receiving their designation.
