 Highlights

  • Prepare to graduate as a combined assistant working under the supervision of a registered occupational therapist and/or physiotherapist
  • Develop knowledge, skill and professional behaviour toward the delivery of treatment to clients/patients coping with temporary or permanent health
    limitations in movement and daily function
  • Demonstrate initiative, creativity, respect for self and others, and strong work ethics
  • Experience clinical/fieldwork placement within and outside the Hamilton area
  • Experience a newly enhanced curriculum that uses an integrated OTA and PTA approach to reflect the role of the assistant in current practice

Admission Requirements

  • OSSD or equivalent (GED, College and Career Preparation) including:
    • Grade 12 English, general, advanced, C or U
    • Two senior sciences (of Biology, Chemistry or Physics) general, advanced, C or U
  • Volunteer experience is recommended in Physiotherapy and/or Occupational Therapy setting
  • Mature applicants are considered individually
    • Mature applicants are required to complete or be registered in one senior, general or advanced science, or college preparatory biology
  • Accepted applicants are required to provide an up-to-date immunization record, police clearance, and have Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification at the BCLS level and a First Aid Certificate prior to commencing the program.
  • Accepted applicants under the age of 18 may not be permitted to participate in some courses due to legal restrictions such as the Mental Health Act

Note: Registered students who have been convicted of an offence under the criminal code for which they have not been pardoned may be denied the opportunity to enter clinical placement. A more extensive Police Clearance may be requested by clinical placement agencies.
