Academic Specializations

  • Program follows guidelines set by the Ministry of the Solicitor General for the Province of Ontario

Admission Requirements

For year 1:

  • OSSD or equivalent (GED, College and Career Preparation) including:
    • Grade 12 English, general or advanced C or U
    • Senior Mathematics is advised
  • Mature applicants are considered individually
  • Candidates are required to successfully complete an aptitude test designed for policing and a written assessment to be admitted to second year

For Advanced Entry to Year 2:

  • University degree or college diploma or equivalent with at least one course in Communications, Psychology, Sociology, Political Science and/or Public Administration Criminology and Contemporary Social Problems
  • Prospective students with college or university credentials but without these credits may be required to complete additional courses
  • Student enrolled in the LASA/Police Foundations common first year who wish to be considered for the second year Police Foundations program must obtain 75% in Fitness courses
  • To complete the diploma in police foundations, all students will be required to successfully complete the Physical Evaluation for Police (P.R.E.P.) test, written communication test, and other aptitude test(s) as well as meet other required standards for police services to qualify for graduation
  • Applicants should be advised that employers will require a criminal record check
  • Applicants should be aware that some employment opportunities require that certain physical standards, driving abstracts and health standards including vision must be met
  • Admission requirements for this program are similar to the requirements and hiring standards for police constables outlined by the Ministry of the Solicitor General for the Province of Ontario
