Mohawk students win gold at national marketing competition
HAMILTON – A team of Mohawk students has won gold at the 2006 Canadian Marketing Association (CMA) Awards.
Third-year Advertising students Adam McClare, Cassandra Withey, and Lisa Labreche won gold in the Student Award: Marketing category. The award was presented at the association’s annual gala and in front of 2,000 industry leaders and professionals from across the country. The trio of Mohawk students have also been offered guaranteed field placements at Toronto advertising agencies.
Working from a case study, the Mohawk team had three weeks in which to create a direct marketing campaign for a fictional digital music download company. Also winning gold at the CMA Awards was a team from the Schulich School of Business. Teams from colleges and universities from across Canada entered the competition.
In addition to winning gold at the CMA Awards, the Mohawk students have taken on leadership roles in the Advertising program’s in-house ad agency, with Mohawk’s partnership with the Robert Land Community Association and with The Advertising Society while maintaining a 90 per cent average in their academic studies.
“Mohawk is proud to have three of Canada’s best Advertising students at our college,” says President MaryLynn West-Moynes. “The team’s success at the Canadian Marketing Association Awards reflects the caliber of the students and staff in Mohawk’s Advertising program.”
Since 1998, Mohawk Advertising students have won eight CMA awards.
