Work Term 1 and 2
Drafting
- Detailing and preparation of residential design drawings including working drawings.
- Introduction to the use of AutoCAD for drawing preparation.
Building Construction
- The student has studied the properties of major construction materials such as concrete, steel and wood.
- Residential construction materials and techniques have been studied. This includes the most common construction practices from the footings to the roof.
Contracts and Economics
- The student has completed a basic estimating course including quantity take-offs, unit costs and overall quantities and costs.
- The student is familiar with contractual relationships in the building industry including fundamentals of contracts and types of contracts.
Building Services
- The students has studied mechanical and electrical systems related to residential construction including heat loss calculations, plumbing system design and drawing, and the drawing of electrical services.
Work Term 3 and 4
The student has completed studies related to multiple family dwelling units in the subject areas of Building Construction, Drafting and Design, Building Services and Contracts and Economics
After the fifth academic semester, the student has completed courses related to architectural design, production of details and drawing, building services, buidling exterior and interior finishes, contracts and specifications. The studies relate to the construction process from award of contract to completion of the contract and occupancy of the building.
