Funded by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, the
Job Connect Program provides youth, adults and internationally trained
individuals, who are out of school or training and out of work, with
the opportunity to gain the skills and knowledge needed to find and
keep a job. This continuous intake program serves individuals at any
level of education or job preparedness.
The following services are all free to participants:
Employment Resource Centre
The
Employment Resource Centre is a free community resource open to anyone
looking for work, whether full-time, part-time, or just for the summer.
It provides:
- Walk-in access to written, audio-visual and computer based material
on careers, occupations, employment, the job market, training
opportunities and job search skills and strategies
- Access to phone, fax, photocopier, computers and the Internet
- Staff assistance
Employment Workshops
- FREE informational workshops to assist with career and job search strategies
- ONLINE workshops
Employment Planning and Preparation
This service is for youth, adults and internationally trained individuals. It provides:
- Individual assessment to clarify employment needs and to set short and long-term goals
- Staff guidance for career planning and to develop an action plan, job search skills and strategies
- Preparation for employment through workshops, group activities,
self-directed learning, skills activities and use of the Employment
Resource Centre

Job Development and Placement Services
This
service is for youth, adults and internationally trained individuals
who need additional support beyond Employment Planning and Preparation
to develop general and career specific employment skills to
successfully enter the workforce. This service provides:
- Hands-on activities and practical work experience in the form of volunteer work, job shadows, job trials, short job placements
- Paid work placements and on-the-job training

Apprenticeship Training Support Initiatives
- Job Connect provides targeted assistance to people looking for
apprenticeship training by connecting them with employers interested in
hiring and training apprentices.
Academic Scholarships and Signing Bonus
- Job Connect provides $1,000 scholarships for young people (24 and
under) who return and complete academic upgrading to qualify and
register as an apprentice.
- Job Connect provides a $2,000 signing bonus for employers who
support scholarship recipients’ apprenticeship registration and provide
apprenticeship training.

Summer Job Service
- FREE service for students aged 15 to 24 looking for employment that
provides hiring incentive to employers. Summer Jobs Service – Assists
youth who are returning to school in September with summer employment.
