Mohawk College annually serves 10,000 full-time, 3,000 apprenticeship, and 300 international students, as well as 5,000 adult learners, and 42,000 Continuing Education registrants. Aboriginal Student Services

Welcome to all new and prospective students! Aboriginal Student Services offers a wide range of services and activities for our aboriginal students designed to make to your experience here at the College both interesting and fun. We have planned a number of special events throughout the year and we sincerely hope you take the time to participate. If you have any ideas for events you would like to see offered, our team would really appreciate hearing from you.


Aboriginal Access & Recruitment Coordinator

A Liaison Officer is available to assist students by answering questions or concerns regarding college admissions, program information, career services, scholarships & bursaries. The Coordinator also acts as a liaison with high schools and various Aboriginal organizations, and promotes College programs and services through information sessions, College tours and career fairs.

Aboriginal Liaison & Communications Officer

Our Aboriginal Liaison & Communications Officer assists with the development and implementation of aboriginal programming here at the College. This includes enhancing a lot of the services we already offer and developing new innovative activities to bring the students, staff and aboriginal community together. We welcome any suggestions you may have regarding aboriginal programs and services here at the College.

Program Manager - Aboriginal Education

The Program Manager of Aboriginal Education is responsible for coordinating Aboriginal academic programming and services, and for facilitating the development of new Aboriginal programming. The Program Manager of Aboriginal Education welcomes constructive input from students pertaining to Aboriginal programming and services. In addition, community organizations are invited to contact the Program Manager of Aboriginal Education regarding any specialized training courses they would like to see developed.

Aboriginal Student Association

The Brantford Campus is home to the Aboriginal Student Association, and the Fennell Campus is home to the Aboriginal Friendship Circle. Both organizations provide an opportunity for Aboriginal students to meet and interact with other Aboriginal students. Both organizations are involved in holding fundraisers, socials and luncheons for the students. Also, the organizations are active in campus activities and hold weekly meetings during the academic year. Aboriginal Student Lounges

The Aboriginal lounges provide a comfortable environment for Aboriginal students to meet, mingle, socialize and study with other students. Both lounges are equipped with up to date computers.

Aboriginal Peer Tutoring

This program is available for Aboriginal students seeking academic support through tutoring, workshops or resources. It is an excellent resource for students who may otherwise be struggling with a particular course in their program. Not only does this service provide opportunities for students to receive free peer tutoring, but students can also obtain work experience as a tutor and earn part-time wages.

Student Workshops

Elder as Resource

The Elder as Resource program is available to offer additional spiritual and cultural support to Aboriginal students and to the staff of Mohawk College. Elders have been invited to provide leadership in events such as talking circles, as well as provide staff and faculty with an opportunity for more multi-cultural awareness and education.

Aboriginal Alumni Circle & Mentorship Services

The Aboriginal Alumni Circle wishes to achieve a circle of committed graduates who are willing to dedicate a small amount of time towards keeping their Aboriginal community strong. Alumni may also provide personal and academic support to current Aboriginal students.
