Education Next forum to discuss changing education needs of technologists

HAMILTON - More than 120 employers, government officials and educators will meet in Hamilton next Tuesday to help chart the future of an innovative partnership that develops the technical skills and leadership abilities of technologists.

Participants in Education Next: A Forum for Advancing Technology Education will provide input for building on the success of the McMaster-Mohawk Bachelor of Technology Partnership. Launched in May 2006, the partnership is the first in Canada to offer an accelerated path for working technologists, internationally trained professionals and high school graduates to earn both a college diploma and university degree in technology.

Mohawk College and McMaster University
When:Tuesday, January 22, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Where:  Sheraton Hamilton Hotel, Grand Ballroom (116 King St. West)

Guest speakers include: Robert Gordon, President Emeritus, Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, speaking on "The case for university and college collaborations" at 9 a.m. and Murray Elston, President and CEO of the Canadian Nuclear Association at 11:15 a.m. addressing "Human resource workforce challenges facing the nuclear industry in Canada and worldwide".

During breakout sessions from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., participants will provide input on a range of topics, including energy engineering technologies, training for internationally educated engineers and technologists, continuing technology education, educational and career pathways in engineering and technology and employment issues for students and graduates.
