Mohawk librarian recognized with provincial honours

HAMILTON - Jennifer Horwath, e-Services Librarian at Mohawk College, is the 2008 Ontario College and University Library Association's Academic Librarian of the Year.
Horwath, who joined Mohawk in 2002, has kept the Library@Mohawk on the forefront of emerging technologies and applications in academic libraries. Horwath has served as President and Treasurer of the Ontario Library and Information Technology Association and shares her expertise and experience as a frequent conference presenter at library and learning technologies conferences. Horwath has published articles in The Canadian Journal of Library and Information Practice and Research and Library High Tech and has been involved in community projects including the Ask Ontario Technology Task Force and the Metadata Working Group of the MyHamilton Portal Project. She also participated in a Rotary International Group Study Exchange to The Philippines in April, 2005.
The Academic Librarian of the Year award recognizes an individual member of the library profession in Ontario who has made an outstanding contribution to academic or research librarianship and library development. Candidates are expected to have:
- Demonstrated notable service to the academic community through contribution to professional organizations, publications, and/or research.
- Served as models for their profession and as examples of dedication, and to have demonstrated consistently high service standards and innovative approaches to library issues.
- Participated actively in work to achieve the goals of their employing library and its parent institution.

Jenn's insight, sensitivity and sense of innovation combine with her approachability to make her a very popular winner of this year's award, says Westerby.
