Award-Winning TV Industry Veterans Connie Smith and Dan McLean Will Be Honoured at MEDIAFEST 2008

Hamilton, ON (April 1, 2008) - Mohawk College is hosting its 29th annual Mediafest Awards show on Thursday, April 10th, 2008 at 7:30PM in the McIntyre Theatre at the Fennell Campus. The event is designed to showcase student excellence in Mohawk's Communications Media and Music Departments: Advertising, Broadcast Journalism, Radio Broadcasting, Television Broadcasting and Music. During the production, written, directed and produced by third year Television students, CHCH News personalities Connie Smith and Dan McLean will be presented with the prestigious Honourary Andy Award at the event.

The Honourary Andy, given by the Communications Media Department, recognizes contributions to, and achievements in, the Canadian broadcast industry. It is named in honour of Agnes M. Anderson, a Hamilton native and dedicated broadcaster, who devoted her time and efforts to help many young people in the community begin a career in the industry.

Connie Smith and Dan McLean are two of the most recognizable and trusted anchors in the Ontario broadcast market . With over 30 years of experience in the industry individually, each has made themselves role models for aspiring journalists everywhere. Connie and Dan currently co-anchor CHCH News At Noon while Dan is also the co-anchor of CHCH News At 6. In addition, Connie and Dan contribute greatly to the local community by tirelessly volunteering their time to charities like the annual McMaster Children's Hospital "Celebration" telethon, Cancer Centre Foundation and Alzheimer Society of Ontario. Both have garnered numerous industry and community awards for their work.

Previous Honourary Andy Award recipients include: Gordon Pinsent, Steve Smith (The Red Green Show), Matt Hayes (CHCH News/102.9 K-Lite FM personality), Jim Van Horn, Tony Young (Master T), Mr. Dressup's Ernie Coombs, Brian Williams and Sue Johanson.

Mediafest is a free event and after the awards show, there will be a reception in the main television studio. The awards show will take place on Thursday, April 10th at 7:30PM inside the McIntyre Theatre at Mohawk College. It is a celebration not be missed.
