INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS AND SATISFACTION - October 2008

Although we have been quiet, the IES team has been busy at work on several fronts. With only six months to go, we have lots of work to do. Here is an update to keep everyone posted on our progress:

EXEMPTIONS

The work is slow and tedious, but we are making great progress as we test the application prior to go-live. As we want it to be a BIG success, we have added additional functionality so that it will meet the needs and expectations of staff and students. We thank everyone for their patience. We will roll out the new product sometime before the winter semester commences.

ACADEMIC PLANNING - Timetable Requirements and Workload Planning

A replacement for Terry Fair should be in place within the next few weeks. Terry will then begin a six month secondment, making much needed improvements to the SUMMIT tool. Increasing response time and reducing duplication are the key goals.

The IES team is continuing to collect lists of academic activities and deadlines which will transform into an annual Academic Planning Roadmap. This roadmap will not only be an excellent resource, but will help to determine where the “road blocks” are so that decisions can be made to streamline processes.

ADMISSIONS

Forty recommendations came forward following the review of Admissions processes last spring. The number one priority identified is how we communicate with the applicant pool. A team is now in place and is working to address the issues, including the letter generation software. Over the next three months, a detailed project plan will be developed.

Many of the other recommendations are in progress or will be addressed over the next several months.

 QUALITY AT MOHAWK AND PQAPA

PQAPA is the Program Quality Assurance Process Audit, mandated by the Ministry. The college is preparing for this self assessment audit, which will take place March, 2009. The IES team has assisted Rosemary Knechtel and Kathy Verspagen by hosting five focus sessions with various stakeholders.

 ASSISTANTS TO THE ASSOCIATE DEANS

The IES team facilitated a meeting of the Assistants to the Associate Deans. The purpose of the meeting was to share best practices, issues and group problem solving. The Assistants will be working with the IES team to develop a Terms of Reference to guide and formalize their future discussions.

GOING GREEN

The IES team is assisting Lorraine Vanderzwet-Servos in an effort to clean up the campuses. More to follow on this…stay tuned!
